Tricks of the Tutorial Trade: Exploring Creation Tools

A hands-on workshop for creating web-based instruction tutorials with free and low-cost tools

Friday, July 25, 2008

Registration Fee: $20 - Light breakfast & Lunch provided!

Are you interested in creating screencasts and instructional tutorials for your library's website, but are unsure about learning yet another software package?

Academic libraries throughout Oklahoma and the U.S. are using simple, powerful software packages and websites like Jing (free!), uTIPu (also free!), Camtasia, and Captivate to creat custom tutorials for their catalogs, databases, and other Information Literacy topics. Experienced users of these tools will share some 'tricks of the trade' with you before stepping back and providing support while you try them yourself.

We'll also discuss how you can use tools you may already own (like Microsoft's PowerPoint) to create tutorials! Join us at University of Central Oklahoma's Chambers Library to learn the basics of picking the right software, scripting your lessons, and creating professional quality tutorials with video, sound, quizzes, and special effects!

Participants will have ample opportunity to work with these tools (assisted by seasoned users). You will leave the session having created a complete tutorial on the topic of your choice, formatted and ready to upload to your library's website!
